Thomas Wilson: The Complete System of English Country Dancing, 1816


4 - 7 parin solamuodostelmassa, epäsäännöllinen progressio.

Musiikki on slip jig-rytminen (9/8). Rakenne: AABBCC (tanssin kuviot eivät ole sidottuja musiikin kertausrakenteeseen).

Kävelyaskelin tai pienillä hypähdyksillä. Laukkarytmisessä musiikissa voi ottaa kolme askelta tai skip-hypähdystä per tahti.

Ensimmäinen osa

Ensimmäisessä osassa solan ensimmäinen (A) ja viimeinen (B) pari toimivat muiden odottaessa. Lyhyet muistisäännöt: A-daami ja B-herra toimivat ensin, B-daami ja A-herra toistavat heti saman. Kuviot: ei kättä, oikea käsi, vasen käsi, molemmat kädet, dos-à-dos.

A-daami ja B-herra aloittavat musiikin fraasin ensimmäisestä tahdista, B-daami ja A-herra odottavat kaksi tahti ja aloittavat kolmannesta tahdista. Kuviot toistuvat siis kaanonissa, B-daami ja A-herra ovat kaksi tahtia A-daamia ja B-herraa jäljessä. Kuviot yksi kerrallaan, kukin kohta on neljän tahdin mittainen:

• Daami ja herra lähestyvät toisiaan solan keskellä ja peruuttavat paikoilleen.  
• Lähestyvät toisiaan solan keskellä, ojentaen toisilleen oikeat kädet, pyörivät koko kierroksen
• Menevät takaisin paikoilleen ja pyörähtävät paikallaan.
• Lähestyvät toisiaan solan keskellä, ojentaen toisilleen vasemmat kädet, pyörivät koko kierroksen.
• Menevät takaisin paikoilleen ja pyörähtävät paikallaan.
• Lähestyvät toisiaan solan keskellä, ojentaen toisilleen molemmat kädet, pyörivät koko kierroksen.
• Menevät takaisin paikoilleen ja pyörähtävät paikallaan.
• Lähestyvät toisiaan solan keskellä, tanssivat dos-à-dos.
• Menevät takaisin paikoilleen. 

A-daami ja B-herra odottavat (kaksi tahtia) kun B-daami ja A-herra tanssivat viimeisen kuvion loppuun.

Toinen osa

Toisessa osassa A-pari johtaa ja kaikki muut seuraavat. A-pari vaihtaa puolia ja menee ulkokautta seuraavan parin alapuolelle, vaihtaa jälleen puolia ja menee siitä seuraavan parin alapuolelle. A-pari pujottelee näin koko kuvion läpi ja päätyy viimeiseksi pariksi, proper.

Viimeiseltä paikalta A-pari tekee promenadin kuvion keskeltä takaisin ylös. Kaikki muut parit lähtevät seuraamaan heitä. Päästyään kuvion alkuun A-pari cast off, muut seuraavat. A-pari menee viimeisen parin paikalle ja seuraavat parit täyttävät kuvion järjestyksessä; näin A-parista tulee seuraavan kertauksen B-pari ja edellisen kierroksen kuvion toisesta parista uusi A-pari. Tanssi alkaa alusta, ja sitä toistetaan niin kauan kunnes kaikki ovat saaneet tanssia aktiiviset roolit.

Music in slip-jig time (9/8). Structure: AABBCC (dance figures are not tied to musical structure).

With walking steps or little skips. In compound triple time music, three steps or skips can be done per bar of music.

First Part

In the first part the top couple (A) and bottom couple (B) are active while all others wait. Short aide-mémoire: lady A and gentleman B always act first; lady B and gentleman A then immediately repeat the same figure. Figures: no hands, right hands, left hands, both hands, dos-à-dos.

Lady A and gentleman B begin on the first bar of a musical phrase, lady B and gentleman A wait for two bars and begin on the third. The figures are thus repeated in canon, lady B and gentleman A always following two bars behind. The figures one by one, each point takes four bars of music:

• Lady and gentleman approach in the middle and retreat back to place.  
• They approach in the middle, give right hands and turn once round.
• They return to own place and turn.
• They approach in the middle, give left hands and turn once round.
• They return to own place and turn.
• They approach in the middle, give both hands and turn once round.
• They return to own place and turn.
• They approach in the middle and dos-à-dos.
• They return to own place.

Lady A and gentleman B wait (for two bars) as lady B and gentleman A finish their last figure.

Second Part

In the second part couple A leads and others follow. Couple A changes sides and go outside the set below second couple, change sides again and go below third couple. Couple A continues to weave in and out of the set like this until they reach the bottom place, proper.

From the bottom of the set couple A begins a promenade up the middle of the set. All others follow. When couple A has reached the top of the set they cast off, followed by others. Couple A stops at the bottom of the set and others fill in the set after them. Thus couple A becomes the new couple B and the second couple becomes the new couple A. Dance begins again from the first part and is repeated as many times as needed for all couples to have a chance to lead.

Chestnutin esitys. Ensimmäisessä osassa dos-à-dos'n sijasta tanssitaan allemande-pyörintä ja toisessa osassa cast offin jälkeen solan järjestys palautetaan eri tavalla kuin ohjeessa.

Performance by Chestnut. In the first part a turning allemande is danced instead of a dos-à-dos and in the second part the set is rearranged after the cast off in a different way.
