Viimehetken UKK - Last Minute FAQ

Tanssiaiset lähestyvät! Alla vastauksia mieltä mahdollisesti askarruttaviin tanssillisiin kysymyksiin.

Mikä se tanssikortti on?
Tanssikortti on pieni paperi, josta löytyy illan ohjelma ja tanssit. Tanssimestari antaa tanssikortin kullekin vieraalle saapumisen yhteydessä. Samalla hän tiedustelee mihin kolmesta sarjasta tansseja haluat osallistua. Tanssikortissa on valitsemasi sarjan tanssien kohdalla tyhjää tilaa tanssiparin nimeä varten. Aleksanterin baalissa on jatkuva sekahaku, kuka tahansa saa pyytää ketä tahansa tanssimaan.

En tunne ketään sieltä! Kuinka voin löytää parin joka haluaa tanssia samat tanssit?
Sinulla on onneksi aikaa tutustua!

Esimerkiksi tämän blogin postaus tanssiohjelmasta on kätevä.

Aika moni tanssi vaatii tietyn määrän tanssijoita.

Onko ihan pakko tanssia?

The Ball approaches! Below you will find answers to questions pertaining to dance.

So what's this dance card thing?
Dance card is a piece of paper with the program and names of the dances on it. The dancing master will give each guest one on arrival. He will ask which set you would like to dance in. On your dance card you will find empty space next to dances of your chosen set. There you can write the name of your partner for the dance. Now all you need to do is find someone to dance with! At Alexander's Ball everyone can ask anybody to dance.

But I don't know anyone there! How do I know if someone is interested in the same dances as I am?
Fortunately you will have time to socialize. At the beginning of the event and during the dinner you will have time to meet and mingle. See also next question.

What if I can't find a partner beforehand?
Not to worry! All you have to do is come to the ballroom and in case you don't find a partner before the dance is announced just raise your hand. This is a sign you wish to participate. Someone else might raise their hand, too: problem solved!

So can I just dance any dance, at any time?
Unfortunately no. When you bought the ticket you stated a preferred skill level. The three dance sets at the ball correspond to these skill levels. The ballroom at Tali manor is not large enough to accommodate all guests at once. Also the skill levels will make dancing more pleasant to everyone. And no-one needs to remember all twelve dances, just four.

I can't remember which dance belonged where! And where there instructions for the dances somewhere?
The post on dance program on this blog can come in handy. There you will find the dances in their right order and the name of each dance is a link to a written instruction.

But we can still practice at the ball, right?
Not exactly. The dancing master will talk through the choreography before the dance and will call during dancing. But there is no rehearsal as such at the ball. The rehearsals take place before the event, the final rehearsal being on Friday 8 February. Sign up for rehearsals is now closed, but if you missed it then drop us a line on Facebook or at: helsinkisociete@gmail.com The Facebook event for the rehearsals:  https://www.facebook.com/events/263705754284179/ At the ball, should you feel insecure about any choreography, you might want to choose a partner who definitely knows the dance.

Quite a few of the dances require a fixed number of dancers. What if I can't fit in to a cotillion?
This is an actual risk. French country dances require eight dancers and we cannot expect always to have a number of dancers divisible by eight. Should you be left out of your favourite dance approach the dancing master and ask for an encore. Time permitting the dance can be repeated if there are enough people interested in a second go.

Do I absolutely have to dance? I would rather socialize, play cards and watch others dance.
Of course you don't have to dance. The ball is, however, a rare opportunity to dance historical dances to live music in a period environment. Nevertheless the most important thing is to have fun and the event can absolutely be enjoyed without participating in dance. There is also no obligation to dance all dances in your set; if you like you may even choose to dance just one dance. On the other hand, even if you dance your set through you will still have time to enjoy other amusements.
